Driveshaft going?

Postby skyflyer9 » Wed Apr 02, 2008 5:12 pm

Lately when I'm starting from a standstill and let the clutch out into first gear I hear a loud CLINK, like if you banged a tire iron against an axle housing. It's seemingly coming from the driveshaft area, or at least from under the van around the middle, as far as I can tell. It doesn't happen every time, and it's actually happened infrequently for about two years, but now it's happening more and more often.

I wonder if there is some play in the driveshaft, so that when I enter first gear I'm hearing the slap of the driveshaft as the slack is taken up.

Anyone else experience this, and should I do something about this soon?

You're probably way overdue for new u-joints. Mine's an automatic. But when I would take off, it would shake. Then I had some vibration.
